Teatru Astra's opera production Norma, held twice last month, will be featured on Canale 5's only opera and music review television programme Loggione, aired this Saturday at 08.45am.

Scenes from the opera, filmed by a four-strong television crew who came specifically to Gozo for the opera, will be screened together with a commentary and review by musicologist and programme presenter Vittorio Testa. The island of Gozo will also feature prominently as the television crew toured the island and filmed in several locations.

The television crew was brought to Malta by Teatru Astra in strong collaboration with the Malta Tourism Authority.

Loggione, now in its eighth edition, weekly brings to the screen selected opera productions and concerts, rarely outside of Italy, together with interviews with the main artistes and music or stage directors. The programme's production team is that from TG5. Important appointments this season are those dedicated to opera from the Teatro Antico in Taormina, those from the Sferisterio Opera Festival in Macerata, and those from the Arena in Verona.

Norma opened the tenth edition of Festival Mediterranea, which ran from 27 October until 19 November. An international cast of high repute was engaged, led by soprano Dimitra Theodossiou in the title-role. Enrico Stinchelli's artistic direction brought digital scenography for the first time to local opera productions, which was enthusiastically received by local and foreign audiences.

In fact, Teatru Astra has already announced that Enrico Stinchelli will once again be entrusted with the production of Giacomo Puccini's Madama Butterfly, which will open the 11th edition of Festival Mediterranea in 2012. Madama Butterfly will be held on 25 and 27 October 2012.
